Play With Clay: A Clay Workshop

In a time where loneliness and disconnection is at its most prevalent, connection—to ourselves and to others—is often at the core of art and healing.
So, it’s time to play with clay. Come through for a light and easy clay session with independent artist and care worker Tanya Zal in Future Front’s gallery and workshop studio.

WHAT TO EXPECT
1:00 to 3:00 PM ✰ Join us to explore hand building basics, meet other creatives, and have fun. All materials including clay, tools, and paint will be provided. This workshop will include demonstrations and offer some project ideas to get us started, so come through to practice getting in touch with your creative intuition.
ALL DAY ✰ “Play With Clay” is hosted within Future Front’s latest exhibition, “Ceremony.” Featuring 15 works, “Ceremony” is an exploration of the personal routines and community rituals that return us to ourselves. The exhibit explores themes of mental health, connection, collaboration, as well as the role art plays in healing, self-soothing and community-building.
MEET THIS WORKSHOP’S HOST
Tanya Zal (she/her) is an Austin, Texas-based artist interested in practicing deeper care- with ourselves, others, and the things around us. Her ceramics are a playful celebration of the creative process, an anchor to joy, and an invitation toward curiosity. Originally from upstate NY, where she completed her BFA in 2010, Tanya has spent the last decade working in art nonprofit, community organizing, and reproductive justice spaces. She is a current Curatorial Advisor at Future Front Texas and a member of MASS Gallery.

WHERE TO PARK: The Future Front House has a large paid parking lot across the street and is directly accessible by bus line. There’s also free parking up and down the street and in surrounding neighborhoods. Carpool, if you can!
WHAT TO DO: The Future Front House is located within the historic East 12th Street District, which is home to many other creative spaces and businesses, as well as organizations like Six Square. Explore the District while you’re around.

OUR COMMUNITY SAFETY GUIDELINES —

As Future Front strives to be a good neighbor, we also discourage the use of tobacco products on the property of nearby businesses and residences, to improve air quality, throughout our events.
Tobacco use and electronic smoking device use are not permitted at any time within Future Front properties and event spaces at least 15 ft from entrances, exits, operational windows, or ventilation system intake vents.
Littering of tobacco-related products on the grounds or parking lots is also prohibited.
Concealed or open weapons and firearms (including handguns) are not allowed at any Future Front venues.

The Austin Studio Tour, produced by Big Medium, is a free, self-guided art event in Austin, Texas.
