Play With Paint: A Paint Workshop

In a time where loneliness and disconnection is at its most prevalent, connection—to ourselves and to others—is often at the core of art and healing.
So, it’s time to play with paint. Come through for a late afternoon session with independent artist Kayla Kennedy in Future Front’s gallery and workshop studio during East Austin Studio Tour.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Release your emotion and express yourself in a vibrant, unstructured painting session where creativity has no rules. This workshop encourages participants to explore color, texture, and emotion through painting in a welcoming, no-pressure environment. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just want to relax, this is a space to let go and let your creativity flow. No art skills needed—just come with an open mind!
All easels, aprons, proper brushes, larger canvas and quality paint will be provided.

A brief introduction and a description of all tools.
✰ 4:10 PM ✰ Painting Time (1 hour 30 minutes)

If desired, participants can share their work and experiences, focusing on the emotions behind their creations (completely optional).
✰ ALL DAY ✰ “Play With Paint” is hosted within Future Front’s latest exhibition, “Ceremony.”
Featuring 15 works, “Ceremony” is an exploration of the personal routines and community rituals that return us to ourselves. The exhibit explores themes of mental health, connection, collaboration, as well as the role art plays in healing, self-soothing and community-building.
about YOUR HOST
Kayla Kennedy is a self-taught abstraction artist based in Austin, Texas. Originally from Long Beach and raised in Portland, Kayla’s journey has taken her from coast to coast, shaping her unique artistic perspective. Her work is deeply inspired by the people and places she has encountered along the way, with each experience adding to the richness of her creative community.
Kayla’s passion for art emerged during her pursuit of a career in interior design, sparking a newfound avenue for self-expression. While she primarily works with acrylic on canvas, she enjoys experimenting with various mediums to create works that are rich in texture and depth.
Through her art, Kayla aims to inspire creativity and foster meaningful connections within her community, leaving a lasting impact on those who experience her work.

WHERE TO PARK: The Future Front House has a large paid parking lot across the street and is directly accessible by bus line. There’s also free parking up and down the street and in surrounding neighborhoods. Carpool, if you can!
WHAT TO DO: The Future Front House is located within the historic East 12th Street District, which is home to many other creative spaces and businesses, as well as organizations like Six Square. Explore the District while you’re around.

As Future Front strives to be a good neighbor, we also discourage the use of tobacco products on the property of nearby businesses and residences, to improve air quality, throughout our events.
Tobacco use and electronic smoking device use are not permitted at any time within Future Front properties and event spaces at least 15 ft from entrances, exits, operational windows, or ventilation system intake vents.
Littering of tobacco-related products on the grounds or parking lots is also prohibited.
Concealed or open weapons and firearms (including handguns) are not allowed at any Future Front venues.
