On February 21 from 7 to 9 PM, weβll be joining our friends at The Groove Temple for their second-annual Chill & Chatβa networking event and conversation series for all women of color aspiring to be DJs. ~ Come out to celebrate Black History Month, learn from incredible Black women in music and meet other creatives.
β ABOUT THE EVENT β
The eveningβs panel is comprised of national powerhouses in radio and media, live performance and cultural curation. Joined by Dee Jay Alicia, DJ Shani and DJ I Wanna Be Her, in conversation with Austin musician Nnedi Agbaroji, our speakers will be sharing their thoughts on performing for thousands, carving out a career in music and media and navigating societal expectations as women in the industry.
This event is ADA-accessible and we encourage those with walking aides (walkers, wheelchairs, canes) to come through. RSVPs are $10 and the event has been made possible, thanks to bbatx (#bossbabesATX), Austin Black Pride, Raaisin In The Sun and The Line Hotel Austin. β MEET THE PRODUCERS AND PARTNERS β
The Groove Temple is a radio show that began in 1999 WLUW(CHI), then moved to Soundwave radio (UK). Founded by DJ Shani, the project is currently based in Austin, Texas and has been proudly curating events, sounds and culture for the last 21 years.
BBATX (#bossbabesATX) is a Texas-based nonprofit that amplifies and connects women and nonbinary creatives, entrepreneurs and leaders. We believe that representation, education and intersectionality make for more resilient leaders and communities. Through conferences, markets, festivals and meet-ups, we create spaces to share our crafts, find collaborators, learn new skills, seek guidance and provide each other with practical and emotional resources. Our programs showcase, educate and connect 1500+ emerging women and nonbinary creatives, entrepreneurs and leaders per year. Beyond the opportunities we offer, our exhibitions and events are attended by 20,000+ community members per year. So, whether you apply to participate in one of our programs, attend our workshops, conferences and dialogues, or come out to a festival or market to support the community weβre building, youβre a member of this movement. All babes, all people, are welcome. :) Learn more at bossbabes.org.
