โ€œINVASIVE SPECIES 2โ€ at Hyperreal Film Club

ITโ€™S SPREADING TO THE CINEMAโ€ฆ

For one week, INVASIVE SPECIES 2 takes over Hyperreal Film Club for a series of feminist horror screenings exploring desire, identity, belonging, the body, transformation, survival, and what happens when the things that haunt us refuse to stay hidden.

Curated by Faiza Kracheni with support from Cynthia Muรฑoz and Alexis Hunter, Feminist Horror Week brings together cult classics, contemporary features, experimental films, and local shorts. Across five nights, the program moves between supernatural horror, bisexual awakenings and queer desire, monstrous bodies, horny poltergeists, power reclamation, shining fangs in the shadows and much more!

General admission is $8 to $15 nightly. Pay what you can.

*All screenings are hosted offsite at Hyperreal Film Club throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Austin School of Film (ASOF) is Texas's longest-running community film school and a program of Motion Media Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

ASOF focuses on independent, experimental, and radically inclusive filmmaking that democratizes access and challenges the Hollywood narrative about who gets to make images. Its rotating roster of 100+ hands-on classes a year is led by filmmakers, film artists, archivists, and animators, from indie production to non-narrative and motion picture film. Beginners are always welcome. No prerequisites, no pretension.

Hyperreal Film Club is a non-profit community cinema and local film hub based in Austin, Texas.

In 2016, founders David, Jenni, and Tanner started popping up in dozens of Austinโ€™s most iconic locations to bring you our fave entries in the world of cult, genre, arthouse, and independent cinema โ€” always paired with one or more short films showcasing the thriving local scene here in ATX.

In August of 2024 they put down roots at 301 Chicon St., a clubhouse where they show the worldโ€™s best movies every Monday-Friday. Sliding scale tickets, popcorn and cold bevs, and all your hot and rowdy friends make this the movie-watching experience of your dreams.

Host Publications is an award-winning, queer- and women-led independent publisher located in Austin, Texas.

Devoted to their mission to elevate historically marginalized writers, Host  Publications publishes radical poetry and fiction by emerging LGBTQ+, BIPOC, intersectional feminist, and immigrant voices. They are a 501(c)(3) literary nonprofit organization.

Homegrown in Austin, Future Front is an award-winning cultural space and public exhibition seriesโ€”with women and LGBTQ+ creatives at the front.

As a 501c3 arts and culture nonprofit, we produce two annual community-led exhibitions, The Front Market and The Front Festival, platforming independent artists and creatives across disciplines in Texas. Beyond our flagship exhibitions, we host seasonal shows and workshops at our creative space in East Austin, welcoming 20,000+ visitors per year.

Through these programs and a diverse network of partnerships, we invite the public (including you) to dream of a future where local art and creativity thrive in Texasโ€”where we see ourselves and our cultures reflected in our communities.
