2nd Annual Plus-Size Community Clothing Swap at The Front Market

Join us on Saturday, December 10 from noon to 3 PM CT for a *super special* community clothing swap, benefitting Future Front. โœจ

Hosted by Future Front board members Xochi Solis and Hali Martin, our Plus-Size Community Clothing Swap is back for a second time. Consider this little fundraiser a moment to celebrate larger bodies, clear your closet, snag new-to-you garments and support the people, places and things you care about.

100% outdoors and open-air at The Front Market, tickets for the swap are $25 and all attendees must bring 5 to 15 items (size XL+) to participate. There'll be an opportunity to win incredible clothing onsite, too, through a raffle featuring pieces from Miranda Bennett Studio and more.

All proceeds will benefit Future Front Texasโ€™ nonprofit educational initiatives, specifically our Community Clubs!

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE SWAP

SWAP GUIDELINES

  • Although The Front Market is free, this swap is not A ticket is required to participate (it's a fundraiser, y'all!).

  • All styles of clothing for larger bodies are welcome.

  • All clothing must be sized X-LARGE and up. (Standard Womenโ€™s size 12+, Standard Menโ€™s 34+)

  • Attendees must bring at least 5 items to swap.

  • Vintage items must be in excellent condition.

  • All clothing must be clean. All clothing should be in good, wearable condition. No holes, rips, or stains (unless stylistic).

  • All seasons and occasions are welcome, i.e. winter coats, cocktail dresses, etc.

  • Shoes, athletic wear (lightly used), and accessories are welcome.

  • Bathrooms and small changing areas will be made available.

She intentionally trained in a weight-neutral style, and offers many modifications to make Barre accessible for all bodies. She is building a community through online Body Positive Barre Classes where you are welcome to come as you are, and to find joy in the low-impact, strength building movement that Barre offers. Natalie understands what challenges people in fat bodies face in traditional fitness spaces, and is so excited to provide an accessible Barre group fitness class for all bodies.

  • One raffle ticket comes with your $25 admission; additional raffle tickets can be purchased at the event for $5 each (must be present to win; all proceeds benefit the fundraiser).

 

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Xochi Solis (she/her) is a mixed media artist born and raised in Austin, Texas. Her works include multilayered, collaged paintings constructed from paint, hand-dyed paper, vinyl, plastics, and images from found books and magazines.

As an accomplished artist and leader in her community with over 15 years of experience, Solis is enthusiastic about continuing to transform her practice as a cultural producer into a vehicle for active citizenship and civic responsibility.

In addition to her studio practice, she manages and spins records with Austin chapter of Chulita Vinyl Club with a focus on the preservation and performance of Tejanx culture. You can learn more at xochisolis.com or on Instagram (@xochisolis).

Hali Martin (she/they) is an accomplished marketer, born in the Bay Area, living and working in Austin, Texas. Her work includes campaigns for technology companies, film festivals, and universities. Currently, Hali is the Digital Marketing Manager for Social Solutions a technology company creating nonprofit tech for the good of communities. She has a professional and personal passion for diversity & inclusion, facilitative deliberation, queer theory, and uplifting up the voices of QTPOC. Outside of work, they moderate panels, and teach workshops on google analytics and SEO best practices. Hali can be found at the farmer's market, reading the Sunday paper, and finding new recipes to cook.

 

HOW TO ATTEND

Although The Front Market is free and open to the public, this swap meet is notโ€”itโ€™s a fundraiser for our rad community programs! Participating in the swap requires a $25 donation.

PREPARE YOUR VISIT TO THE FRONT MARKET

VENUE LOCATION + ACCESSIBILITY โ€” The Front Market and Festival will be held at Ani's Day and Night, which is located at 7107 E Riverside Dr, Austin, TX 78741. The venue wheelchair-accessible and all activities will occur on the ground floor.

PARKING โ€” Ani's has a 60-car parking lot with ample, complimentary street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods (please be mindful and courteous!). We highly encourage utilizing rideshare, carpooling or the City of Austin's public transportation, too.

OUR COMMUNITY SAFETY GUIDELINES โ€”

  • All FFTX staff, volunteers and guests will be required to practice mutual respect, as well as demonstrate an alignment with Future Frontโ€™s code of conduct and values.

  • All sessions are held online or in outdoor, open-air spaces. Capacity is limited to reduce crowding of any kind.

  • All guests are required to practice mutual respect and social distancing, as well as follow APHโ€™s COVID-19 Guidelines, which currently include:

    • At all levels, people can wear a mask based on personal preference, informed by their personal level of risk.

    • People with potential COVID-19 symptoms and/or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask, regardless of a negative test.

    • People with a positive COVID-19 test and/or not fully vaccinated should not participate in an in-person Future Front event or visit a Future Front location until they test negative and/or they are fully vaccinated and no longer at risk.
