Vanessa Flores

Vanessa Flores, LCSW-S, CDWF is a therapist in private practice. She has spent the past 11 years working with teens, survivors of trauma, LatinX women and communities of color. Her training in EMDR and the curriculum of Brené Brown has helped transform the way clients heal. Vanessa is the founder of Colors of Austin Counseling, a social justice oriented group practice that offers varied mental health services in the Central Texas area. Her practice is founded on values of diversity, creativity and courage. Vanessa is passionate about helping other healers and practitioners grow their practice through business consultation and is the founder of Brave & Well. 

Bernadette Chavez-Piñon (facilitator)

Bernadette Chavez-Piñon is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-S) working with adults (18+) in Austin, Texas. She provides individual therapy and other resources to help people overcome stress, live mindfully, and cultivate the life and the relationships they want. Her journey in counseling has been one of encouragement, curiosity, and challenges. Since she started providing counseling in 2009, the reasons why she does what she does have grown with every individual she sees and with every session that takes place. As she continues to evolve as a clinician, she believes that the therapeutic relationship is important to a person’s therapeutic success, whatever that may be. She’s worked in a variety of settings, from one of the top nonprofit agencies in Austin, LifeWorks, to one of the best universities in the country, the University of Texas at Austin. In her experience, she’s seen how the therapeutic relationship can support, nurture, empower, and provide a space for people to be themselves without judgement.

Sydney Greene (moderator)

BBATX board member Sydney Greene is a digital organizer and freelance writer based in Austin, TX. Raised on biscuits and gospel in North Carolina, Sydney moved to Texas in 2018 to work as a reporting fellow for the Texas Tribune, before moving into the world of Texas politics and advocacy. Currently, Sydney is the Digital Communications Coordinator for Deeds Not Words, an organization that galvanizes the power of young self-identifying women to disrupt the status quo through organizing, policy-making, art, and voting. When she’s not strategizing digital campaigns or creating digital content, Sydney writes about gender, culture, and politics, where her writing has been featured in a variety of publications including Texas Monthly, The Austin Chronicle, Teen Vogue, USA Today, and more. Sydney has been involved with bbatx since 2018, first starting off as a volunteer before serving on the 2019 programming committee, and now serves as a board member. When she’s not online or writing, you can find Sydney hunting for gems at a local thrift store, running on the Lady Bird Lake trail, or searching for the best gin cocktail in Austin.
