History In The Making at The Future Front House

DO NOT DISTURB X TAYLOR DANIELLE DAVIS

Presented in collaboration with curator Taylor Danielle Davis and Austin-based collective Do Not Disturb, this interactive exhibit features artwork from five emerging artists in the Texas South, whose mediums draw on visual archives.

All are welcome.  Scroll for more details.

WHAT’S ON VIEW

History in the Making poses two questions — What does Black History mean to you? How are you making History today? — as an expression of solidarity, a celebration of existence and a desire for life.

For ourselves and the futures of those to come after us.

Following an opening night of music and libations, expect multidisciplinary talks and workshops with Austin’s creative community on the exhibit’s themes of cultural preservation and celebration through April 2025.

To register for these workshops, head to futurefronttexas.org/comethrough.

WHAT TO EXPECT opening night

Join us to celebrate History In The Making’s featured artists Constance White, Dontrius Williams, Karin Moss, Jasmin Porter, Salihah Saadiq.

Expect music by DJ Wyldflower, rotating food and drink menus, plus one-night-only exhibits by our community’s little ones: Macsen (5 yo), Koen and Yannis (3 yo).

BEHIND THE SHOW

EXHIBITING ARTIST

Constance White (she/her) is a native Texan who is a graduate of the Meadows School of Art,  Southern Methodist University, Dallas Texas. She uses an analog process with cut paper and adhesive to investigate beauty and sublime femininity. Her narrative collages often manifest as surreal and familiar biographical tableaus. Each piece represents an individual and collective experience, memory or mystic vision. White has been a practicing artist since 2002 and has been awarded residencies and exhibitions in both Texas and California. Her work has been privately collected throughout the US.

EXHIBITING ARTIST

Jasmin Porter is an artist from Oakland, CA living in Austin, Texas. Most of her creative practices depict the intricate vibrancies of life through visual mediums. She seeks to tell the stories that do not often get told and to breathe life into living and still entities.

EXHIBITING ARTIST

Karin Moss is a Detroit native with a profound passion for the arts, especially the works of Black artists. From an early age, they were immersed in a rich environment of poetry, paintings, statues, and fashion, within their childhood home which ignited their creative journey. As a child, skateboarding through their neighborhood served as a vital form of self-expression, blending movement and creativity in a way that would later influence their art.

EXHIBITING ARTIST

Salihah Saadiq is a photographer, curator and DJ based in Austin, Texas.

EXHIBITING ARTIST

Dontrius Williams (he/him) is a film photographer living and working in Fort Worth, Texas. Much of his work documents people, street scenes and incredibly unique situations through a variety of analog cameras and processes. He is a visual historian exploring and capturing the beauty of the here and now, often depicting people, places and residential artists that have energized a contemporary scene in Fort Worth. He captures raw situations alongside beautiful portraits that tell of a city’s large demographic and community. All of which will go into his digital and physical history book through social media and self published photo books.

GUEST DJ

Wyldflower (she/her/they), blooming in Austin but hailing from Detroit, is the founder and host of Sunday Sessions, a DJ, builder, & spiritually led wellness champion. She studied architecture, herbalism, and continues to study many other subjects. As a DJ & music fanatic, she’s heavily influenced by classic House & Soulful sounds, but her styles & interests are as expansive as her travels have been. As a human, she's a champion of anything that supports our collective liberation and believes community is an integral in that pursuit.

CURATOR

Taylor Danielle Davis (she/her) is an independent curator and landscape designer living in Austin, Texas. After receiving her masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin she went on to work for a local Austin design firm, TBG partners where she works on projects such as parks, multifamily amenity courtyards, hospitals and trails. Her curatorial practice is interested in the nuance of artistic practice as it relates to unique life experiences. Working with different galleries she has curated group art shows in San Francisco and Austin. She serves as a board member of the Trail Conservancy in Austin and serves as the board chair for their Arts and Culture Committee and has worked with local Austin arts and culture groups such as AIPP and Future Front Texas.
