Stay Home Book Club: Such a Fun Age

  • From the comfort of your own home, bed or kitchen :) (map)

Calling all babes with books. ~

Over the next few months, we'll be hosting a virtual reading series. On select Mondays in June, July, August and September from 6 to 8 PM, you can grab your beverage of choice and tune in for a digital book club and happy hour led by bbatx board member, Alex Perez-Puelles.

The meetings will be informal (feel free to be camera on or camera off) and we'll flow in whatever direction the conversation takes us. ~

โ€” HERE'S THE READING SCHEDULE โ€”

  • Monday, June 15 โ€” How To Do Nothing by Jenny O'dell

  • Monday, July 20 โ€” Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

  • Monday, August 17 โ€” Wow, No Thank You by Samantha Irby

  • Monday, Sept. 21 โ€” Afterlife by Julia Alvarez

We recommend borrowing these books from the Austin Public Libraryโ€‹, purchasing them from BookWoman AustinBookPeople Austin or exploring your options at Black Pearl Books. You can also browse this list of independent, Texan book retailers.

โ€” ABOUT THIS MONTHโ€™S BOOK: SUCH A FUN AGE BY KILEY REID โ€”

In the midst of a family crisis one late evening, white blogger Alix Chamberlain calls her African American babysitter, Emira, asking her to take toddler Briar to the local market for distraction. There, the security guard accuses Emira of kidnapping Briar, and Alix's efforts to right the situation turn out to be good intentions selfishly mismanaged.

โ€” MEET THE PRODUCERS โ€”

About bbatx (#bossbabesATX): Weโ€™re a Texas-based nonprofit that amplifies and connects women and nonbinary creatives, entrepreneurs and organizers. We create space to share our crafts, catalyze multi-industry coalitions, promote intersectionality across disciplines, seek guidance and provide each other with practical and emotional resources. Anyone interested in our mission, core values, and initiatives are invited to participateโ€”and learn more about how intersectional gender equality can improve their daily lives. We provide 1500 opportunities to women and nonbinary creatives, entrepreneurs and community organizers per year. More than 20,000 community members also annually attend our showcases, markets and dialoguesโ€”and in the last three years, our programs generated an additional $1million for the Austin economy. So, whether you apply to participate in one of our programs, attend our workshops, conferences and dialogues, or come out to a festival or market to support the community weโ€™re building, youโ€™re a member of this movement. All babes, all people, are welcome. :) Learn more at bossbabes.org.

BBATXโ€™S VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING
has been made possible by our year-round partners at bbatx. Without them, weโ€™d be shuttering our doors. Thank you for supporting us.
