Produced in partnership with Austin Design Week and co-programmed with our friends at &FEMINIST, #bossbabesATX is proud to present Reclaiming Space: Equality and Place-making on Nov. 7 from 6 to 9 PM at Lewis Carnegie Studio (1312 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702). This panel will explore the stories of four multidisciplinary individuals, reshaping narratives through community, architectural and social design. The event will open with a portraiture installation by &FEMINIST and close with a screening of Sista in the Brotherhood produced by Dr. Roberta Hunte. Throughout, we'll attempt to contextualize the links between our culture, actions and social/built environments.
Meet the panelists:
About the film:
Presented by Open Architecture: Austin, we're happy to include a screening of SISTA IN THE BROTHERHOOD at this event. Sista in the Brotherhood is a 20 minute short about a black, apprentice carpenter who faces discrimination on the job and must choose between taking a stand or keeping her job. It was inspired by the thesis of producer, Dr. Roberta Hunte and partially based on the experience of journey level carpenter/director Dawn Jones Redstone. It was filmed on the Sellwood Bridge construction project in Portland, Oregon.
RSVP:
This event is free and open to the public. We suggest securing an RSVP for updates on the event and more information regarding the evening's discussion.

About &FEMINIST: And feminist is meant to be a neutral, non-confrontational collection of environmental portraits that humanizes the label by bringing in two more descriptors chosen by each subject to show a fuller view of who they are whether that be family, religion, career, or lifestyle focused. Many people are something in addition to a label of their belief in equality. A fuller sentence of ____________, _____________, and feminist paired with portraits of people in their daily environments aims to show how universal the needs and wants for equality are today.
