Behind The LINE Austin Creative Retreat

For the first time this summer, Future Front Texas is partnering with The LINE Hotel to host a two-night creative retreat for Central Texas artists in the heart of downtown Austin. 

Known for its legacy of supporting artists and integrating creativity into the guest experience, The LINE Austin provides the perfect backdrop for a community-focused approach to creative visibility.

Together, we are creating an alternative retreat experience—removed from the everyday rhythm and everyday life to retreat with intention.

2025 RETREAT SCHEDULE

  • Arrive early for one of Future Front’s classic Swim Sessions at The LINE Hotel Austin featuring DJ HoneyPocket.

    Entry for you and guests is complimentary as a guest of The LINE Austin Creative Retreat. You do not have to register, just provide your name at the door of The LINE Hotel pool.

  • 3 PM ★ Check-In Begins — Settle into your room using the instructions provided by The LINE Hotel Austin. (See confirmation email in your inbox.)

    5 PM ★ Retreat Welcome + Tour — Head to The LINE Hotel lobby for the official retreat welcome with Future Front’s Director Jane and The LINE Hotel Austin’s Brand Manager Izzy. This includes a brief tour of the hotel’s art collection, an introduction to the retreat weekend painting room by artist and Future Front coordinator taylor barnes, and an overview of what to expect throughout the weekend.

    6 PM ★ Cantero Happy Hour — Head to the hotel’s newest concept Cantero for a complimentary happy hour for all retreat guests, with a set by DJ el.C (dinner available for purchase from Veracruz All Natural).

    8 PM ★ Free Time — This retreat is all about space and time. Head back to your room, take a dip in the pool or venture out onto the South Congress bridge to catch Austin’s iconic bats at sunset.

  • 10 AM ★ Free Time — This time is all for you. So, plan your own breakfast and lunch, head to the painting room, take a walk on the lake trail, explore downtown Austin or work independently in your room.

    1 PM ★ Creative Vision-Mapping Workshops with DJ Cassandra + Future Front Director Jane Hervey — To kick off Day Two of the retreat, head to the Topaz Ballroom (second floor) for visioning workshops with award-winning composer, producer and DJ Cassandra Shankman and Future Front’s director and public curator Jane Hervey.

    4 PM ★ Mindful Painting/Collage/Drawing with Sophia Gonzalez — Head back to the Topaz ballroom (second floor) for a meditative free-create session with Austin-based artist Sophia Gonzalez.

    7:30 PM ★ Retreat Dinner — All retreat guests are invited to a complimentary dinner at The LINE Hotel’s renowned Arlo Grey by chef Kristen Kish.

    9:30 PM ★ Cantero Night-Cap — After dinner, join us in Cantero for a closing complimentary cocktail (or mocktail), with the drink tickets provided in your room.

  • 10 AM ★ Wellness Session — Head to Topaz Ballroom for a closing wellness and movement session with H. E. Wong, with complimentary beverages from SmartWater and Unwell.

    11 to 11:30 AM ★ Check-Out — Check out of your room and head downstairs for closing brunch at Cantero.

    11:30 AM ★ Closing Brunch at Cantero & Veracruz All-Natural — Time for final goodbyes! Stop by Cantero for some tacos and mingling, before you head out. Be sure to utilize the remaining drink tickets provided in your room.

WHAT TO BRING:

Beyond your own belongings and personal items, please bring a swimsuit and a yoga mat, as well as any of the supplies you need for your creative work over the weekend.

Once home to a jazz club that broadcast live on local radio in the late 1960s, the hotel is part of Downtown history and holds a cultural legacy as unique as the city itself. Future Front Texas

Homegrown in Austin, Future Front Texas is an award-winning cultural space and exhibition series led by women and LGBTQ+ creatives in Texas.
