#bbatx and the City of Austin's Cultural Arts Division invite you to join a community conversation with practicing artist Lenka Clayton and artist, editor and advocate for artists Sharon Louden on her book series “Living and Sustaining A Creative Life" on January 20, 2018 from 10 AM to noon at The Refinery.

In today’s digital landscape, the arts and culture industries are contributing more to our economy than ever before—and living and sustaining a creative life seems all the more possible. In practice, though, making art and making money often sit at odds. So, can we do both? And, if so, how? At the Jan 20 event, Louden and Clayton will share pragmatic models in which they and other artists sustain their lives. Complimentary coffee beverages will be provided by #bbatx's friends at Picnik Austin.

WHEN: Jan 20 from 10 AM to noon.

WHERE: The Refinery, located at 612 Brazos Street, Austin.

This event is free and open to the public; subject to RSVP.

Lenka Clayton is an artist and founder of An Artist Residency in Motherhood. Her interdisciplinary work considers, exaggerates, and alters the accepted rules of everyday life, extending the familiar into the realms of the poetic and absurd. In previous works she has hand-numbered 7,000 stonessearched for all 613 people mentioned in a single edition of a German newspaper; filmed one person of each age from 1 to 100, and reconstituted a lost museum from a sketch on the back of an envelope. She and writer Michael Crowe are currently in the middle of writing a unique, personal letter to every household in the world. For three years she was the world’s first Artist-in-Residence-in-Motherhood after she founded a fully-funded artist residency that took place inside her own home and life as a mother of two young children. On Mother’s Day 2016 An Artist Residency in Motherhood became an open-source project, there are currently almost 300 Artists-in-Residence-in-Motherhood in 31 countries on six continents.
